Okay.
The part you the realism requires you now to identify features of the political world as we know it, or features of our uh uh practices, institutions, and norms as we encounter them that can be marshaled uh uh in support of uh of that uh uh project of resisting state capture.
And you know, you devote two chapters to different.
different uh elements that are already present within our social world in modern democracies that are that can be just sort of centered and you know um perhaps understood as as more um uh as closer to being sort of definitive of uh of the project rather than as sort of downstream to the project.
So I want to ask you to sort of pull these two together.
You you identify three
three what you call liberal commitments that are already present that help uh um uh resist state capture, um constitutionalism, competition, and universalism.
And then you turn to three more radically democratic forces that uh again are already present to some degree in our world that you want to sort of put at the center stage.
Sort of anti-monopolistic tendencies, uh the
idea of countervailing power and um commitments to systematic redistribution.
Uh it's a lot of material I know Sam to sort of like synthesize, but can you uh in the interest of just sort of getting that element of the picture out, can you can you bring those two bring that those two discussions together?
Right.
Good, good, good.
So um that that that puts into sort of sort of broad relief sort of the the the program uh in both its realist and uh its its more radical uh implications.
So um, you know, I had a question here about um, you know, the the role of utopian thinking uh in uh in in uh in in the account.
Um I take it that uh
Um some listeners will uh uh associate uh the term realist in political theory with a kind of anti-utopianism or non-idealism uh about political theory.
But I'm I'm gonna um I'm gonna sort of leave it to to those who uh elect to to go and read your book to uh explore uh the synthesis between realist thinking and uh the introduction of what you call utopian horizon into the theory.
make sure we get to talk about um uh the the the way the book ends, the the f the final few chapters of the book.
Um you've been really generous with your time and so I want to make sure that uh uh that that we get to this.
