So the first response is I didn't know too much about the Gilgo Beach investigation.
I knew a little bit about it because I lived in Nassau County and we were the bordering county to Suffolk.
When the bodies were first discovered, it was in December 2010.
And in
And in April, 2011, at that timeframe, I was a precinct commander in Harlem, which I'm sure everybody could probably understand.
I had my own crime and issues I had to deal with.
So I had some concerns regarding it because me being the father of three girls and just finding women being discovered, dismembered on this strip of about five miles was concerning.
Later investigation learned or was able to reveal that
they were sex workers, but it still was very, very terrifying knowing that there's somebody out there killing women, me being a father of young ladies at the time, and not knowing where the investigation was headed and if they've had anybody identified.
There was an initial question, which was, where did the case stand?
And I had some concerns, I'll be honest with you.
When I got there and I interviewed lead investigators that were
overseeing the case, it wasn't prioritized.
It wasn't something that I felt that they put it on the front burner.
And just, you know, as we go along in this interview, I'll share some things, but I would ask some people about the Gilgal Beach investigation and they had no idea, no understanding, no clue.
And that's when I realized that this case is not going to be solved unless we kind of prioritize it, put some...
investigators around it and make sure it's being looked at every single day.
And when you're dealing with homicide investigations, unfortunately, when they get maybe a little stale, sometimes there's a reactionary way of doing investigations.
You wait for information to come in.
You wait for a crime stopper's tip.
