I'm sure there was some

individuals that they probably might have tested it against, but nothing ever came attached to anybody.

And that's due to the fact that the person of interest, the killer in this case, was never arrested.

And because he was never arrested and never did any jail time, DNA was never collected.

So that's where the DNA science was not beneficial in the

first 10, 11 years of the investigation.

But once we were able to identify who Rex Shearman was, and then we started looking a little bit deeper and closer into him, and then we made him, instead of just being somebody that's made suspicion to a person of interest, then we were able to say to ourselves at a certain timeframe, this individual, we have to try to recover some DNA from him.

to see if we could match it to some of the DNA, the hair follicles that were recovered off of some of the women that were discovered on Ocean Parkway.

So science has been very, very beneficial.

It's really has helped out multiple law enforcement agencies to hold people accountable.

But the hiccup there is just we can't rely on it overall because if there's somebody that committed a crime that doesn't have DNA on file,

It doesn't help out until somebody's identified or if that person happens to be arrested.

And Rex Sherman was never arrested and DNA was not on file, which is the reason why that science did not help out for that many years.

No, not at all.

So the state police investigator that was assigned to the task force, Steve Udis assigned this one investigator that was very, very talented, skilled.

And she started working with the team.

She kind of like left state police and was assigned to the team on a regular basis.

She went to the case folder.

And in the case folder, there were two areas where the suicide hits were.

One was in Mass Peacock Park.
