You can't just have a two-dimensional baddie that have to actually feel kind of real, which is actually more frightening, right?
Yeah.
Because he's a well-respected member of the community.
Everybody likes him.
Yeah.
So the body and nesting, obviously, like this abusive partner.
But I did a huge amount of research into, yeah, like patterns, of course, of control, the types of behaviors that people were experiencing and kind of brought all that research in.
But then I had to also try to make him seem kind of human as well.
And yeah, you can't just have them like fall off a cliff either, you know, tempting as it might be.
So it's all that.
It's tough, but then I think it's the goodies, the heroes of the novel that are a joy to write then in contrast.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and the librarians for choosing Nesting as the first ever winner of the Radio 2 Book Club Awards.
I flew over from Ireland for the British Book Awards and honestly, when Nesting was announced as the winner,
It was such a surprise.
I was in that much of a flap.
When I got onto the stage, I nearly forgot to actually accept the trophy from Jeremy Vine.
