because of a mysterious sort of family fallout that we initially don't know much about.

So we're kind of piecing together the story at the same time that the young boy is piecing it together.

But just the way that he captures the child's voice, and there's so much humour in there as well.

It's actually very funny, but sort of heartbreaking as well, you know.

One of those books you just get so invested in, so I'd highly recommend that.

What about

Yeah, I sort of do a bit of a mixture.

I don't really plan in advance.

I sort of plan as I'm going along, if that makes sense.

I'll sort of write a bit and see where the characters are taking me and then stop and maybe look at where the story is going.

But no, definitely there was a lot of characters that came in that I didn't really expect.

There's a character called Cassie, who I love, who is living in the room next door to Keira in the hotel room.

And, yeah, they basically just bump into each other in a hotel corridor one day.

They're both in emergency accommodation, going through homelessness.

But Cathy is just this very kind of straight-talking character, whereas a lot of people are sort of tiptoeing around Ciara a little bit.

Cathy just tells her directly, you know.

So she was a really fun character to write, and I definitely hadn't planned her at all.

I think that's the magic of fiction, really, the way that things can develop, but that you just don't expect at all.

And what about you?

Yeah, well, I think sometimes the challenge with writing your baddies is that they have to be believable.
