So I just, I totally ignored that.

I actually read that email on the way home just out of curiosity to see what it said.

So I was just totally, totally shocked.

I didn't learn a tap dance and that was part of the thing they were expecting.

Well, you were meant to, 90 seconds.

If you won, you had to say something in 90 seconds, which is not very long.

Well, similar really to Val.

You know, I was interested in stories from like a very, very young age.

I remember even at like primary school when I was maybe six or seven years old and you had to write your weekly news.

Yeah.

my news what I did at the weekend well like my news would have included dragons unicorns you know like the teacher had to sort of explain to my parents apparently the sentence was she doesn't seem to really understand the concept of fact versus fiction you know and I just always loved stories and I think similar to Val was saying like I didn't know anyone who was a writer or anything like that and I think for a lot of people it can especially for kids it can just seem like so far removed right something that you could never possibly achieve

But luckily, I had a teacher whose sister-in-law was a children's author, Burleigh Doherty.

And she came in a couple of times and read stories to us and talked to us about her books.

And they were all set in and around Sheffield, which is where I grew up.
