And I think it just made me realize, actually, books can be written by real people.

And they can be about real places as well.

And maybe this is something that I could do.

And I would have written all through my teenage years and 20s and that.

But I think I just didn't really have the confidence

to take it any further.

But I'd started then writing short stories, getting them published.

Short stories are great because you can finish them before your confidence runs out, right?

And then one day I was asked to write a short story for radio.

for our national station.

And I could write anything I wanted on the theme of independence.

And I wrote this story about this woman called Keira Faye who's living in a hotel.

And it was basically the start of nesting.

When I had finished writing that short story, I just knew it had to be something more.

I wanted to know what would happen next.

So I just kind of kept writing.

So it was nearly like the story just really took over.

I think I just wanted to write a story that would feel validating and would feel real and authentic.

You know, there's so many stereotypes around this kind of story.
