Yes.
There's a whole sense that even though and of course the the the royal patents for the theatres they're trying to keep drama under control, there's attempts to censor the press, and people who don't like that of course are very aware of it.
But the people who are coming
to London as refugees, particularly those who are coming from France, which is where most of them are coming from, and was later on Voltaire's in exile in London.
Um, compared with Louis the Fourteenth's France, this is absolute liberty hall, and because the English always liked to compare themselves with the French,
to their own advantage.
Um this was this was a a point of pride that to some extent there were these civilized debates beginning to go on in the press and also and principally in the coffee houses.
And also through this through this series of podcasts, we've seen tra I mean the city's always been a center of trade and business.
But at the beginning, people are selling actual stuff.
You know, they're selling cloth, they're selling
wheat and so on, and the means of the economy is moving further and further away from
actual things to just money lending, and this is a period in which mortgages, leases, stocks and bonds, and as you say, the Bank of England, the national debt, these financial instruments, which are still very characteristic of the city, um and indeed of some of the great disasters of the city to which we'll come.

And in this period where there's a war going on, of course, shipping, dealing in shipping, that's one of the areas where the economy is actually booming.
And indeed the whole business, as you say, stock jobbers got a bad name and what we now call insider trading.
I mean all trading was inside you had to be inside to be doing the trading.
