And I'm like, how is this possible?
Because in high school, I covered high schools, you had to keep the stats yourself.
Um, and I remember actually at the time, at least finding that really fun, you know, and keeping the stats of a game and going back and totaling everything and calling in the score and calling into the declaring ledger, calling in the stats and then writing my story for the
for the Madison County Herald um
I learned so much about high school sports, keeping stats, deadline, reporting.
I picked up a lot of that covering Auburn, but when... Because I was also writing for the Clarion-Ledger, too, on deadline.
And then, because the Madison County Hero, I think, printed on Tuesdays and Fridays, maybe, and then on Sunday or something like that.
So I was doing a lot of follow stuff,
from games, but on Friday night, I was doing a deadline reporting that would go in the Clarion Ledger, a story that would go in the Clarion Ledger.
And then I would follow it with maybe a more detailed story for later in the week from the Herald and feature stories in the Herald.
But I learned so much about deadline reporting, I remember
having connect having to connect to write a story or send a story to the ethernet like in a coach's office you know um or um sitting in my car and uh totaling up stats from a game on a notepad um using like a probably at the time maybe a calculator a little literally a calculator um so it was just a real learning experience there um
And I think probably there to a degree is where I started to write more feature stories because I was given the time and, you know, there's been, there's been a little like, um,
sort of nuggets or little, I don't know, breadcrumbs throughout my career where somebody said something to me and it's inspired confidence for me to keep on going.
Right.
Like I can remember working for the Tupelo Daily Journal as an intern.
I mean, I was 20, 21, and this is a 30,000, 40,000 circulation paper.
And I covered in Elvis Presley's originally from Tupelo.
They have an annual Elvis Presley,
festival every july and i had the lead story like above it 1a story on the elvis festival they wanted me to go out there and cover it and um i wrote a story and it described the when elvis walked out um or the fake elvis there was a lot of them there but when the main fake elvis walked out and did his concert i remember describing the scene and painting the scene as an intro and the lead to the story and the next day i remember one of the editors said like
