And sometimes we sell these kids as if they're all the second coming.
And I think we have to be mindful that it's a teenager and he's going to have his ups and downs in pro hockey.
And, you know, he's going to have stretches where...
for the first time in his life you go a bunch of games maybe you know score a goal and different type of adversity and so I think we have to be flexible and allow for some of that to happen but also because of the gifts that he that he does possess and the drive and passion that he has I don't think it makes any sense to say you know that that if Jim thought that it made sense to put him there with Austin that it would be something that any of us would shy away from
Yeah, I think there's definitely been discussion about these types of things.
And, you know, and getting to know these guys over the years, they all have, you know, Austin's experience was a little bit different just being drafted by the Leafs, whereas John, you know, came after a great already career on the island and then came back to Toronto.
um so i think austin you know can shed the most light on what it is like as a number one overall pick to get dropped into this market and with the pressures that exist and you know i think it is a little bit of a different time uh than when austin and willie and mitch and morgan and all those guys came through where you know that was a team that had burned it burned it down to the ground you know and then our team was a team that had
been in the playoffs with Stanley Cup aspirations for a decade.
And now we had an unfortunate season in some areas that allowed us to get the number one pick.
But we have a lot of great players that primed their careers.
So Gavin is now getting dropped into a situation that maybe the support can be a little more robust.
And it's not something where he has to come and be the savior.
All he has to do is come and be
you know, the best Gavin McKenna that he can be every day.
And, you know, I'm sure all those guys that have the experience that they have here reflect back on, you know, when you're a bright-eyed 17, 18-year-old and all of this possibility exists and all of the fame and fortune that comes with all of this, you know, to help him, you know, just work through that process.
And to me, I think we all want players here that want to give everything and do everything that they can to help
to help us deliver to the fans the Stanley Cup.
And so I think for Gavin to have that support with the leaders of our team.
And, you know, John, like you talked about, he's done such a good job with different players over the years that have come in and having him in his home or having him up to visit with him in the summer.
And that's something that I know he takes a lot of pride in and a lot of our leadership group does as well.
