He's played all different special teams before.
And for us, it was really about a collection of guys.
And it certainly is an important part of that where
you know, we have citizens that has a center, you know, primarily a center, but has the wing versatility, Teddy Bluger.
We already had bull grew, you know, that, that had some of that as well.
And so, you know, having just more of that for us was, was good.
And like John talked about yesterday in one of these, he did, you know, just about building out the spine of the team.
And I felt like, you know, at different times, if we've had an injury or lost a guy, we haven't always had enough natural centerman to go and,
and fill in those spots where now, you know, with the way it's constructed this year, and then even some depth guys that may start with the Marlies and come up at some point.
You know, we have a lot of guys that can fill in the middle of the ice, flex out to the wings, kill penalties, play in power play.
And so just having that is something that, along with pedigree, like you mentioned, really attracted us to Nick when the opportunity presented himself.
And also it's always nice to bring a local guy home.
Yeah, I mean, I think that in Toronto, that's just kind of what you sign up for.
And I think that because of all the protections that so many of our other players have, when it sort of hit rock bottom in the middle of the season, everybody looks and says, oh, how are they going to make the team better?
And I think that's been one that, for whatever reason, has gained a lot of steam.
And the reality is that
uh you know matthew nize is a guy that uh players like that and him as an individual are guys that help you win the stanley cup and every team needs guys like that uh to help you win the stanley cup and so i understand around the league why you know uh teams would have interest or that the the media or the speculation would be such that uh uh that would make sense for a lot of teams but for us uh he's a really important part of what we're doing and um i think that uh
He's got, again, some flexibility to play with Austin, to play in some different situations, and he's kind of built for the playoffs.
For us, certainly we're in contact with his group, as you always are with all your players, but Matthew Knives is an important part of the Maple Leafs, and anything beyond that is really just speculation and fodder that is entertaining.
