But we talked to this fellow by the name of Buddy Reiser.
He sometimes goes by the moniker of the godfather of data centers.
He works for the economic development arm of Loudoun County.
He saw this data center boom coming 20 years ago.
At the time when they first initially started building data centers, it was like to store your iCloud pictures, right?
This was long before artificial intelligence was growing at the rate that it was and that there was the need for these data centers.
And at the time, Loudoun County had a lot of farmland.
It was not nearly as built up as it currently is.
But over the course of 20 years, you had...
both the explosion of this technology, which required the need for these data centers, but then also at the same time these data centers started exploding, the population started exploding there.
There's a real frustration among the people of Loudoun County because when the kind of the residential boom started there, it was this idea of many people trying to get out of the rat race of an urban environment, right?
They were trying to get into this place where their kids could run around in the neighborhood.
Yeah.
They live on the end of a cul-de-sac.
There's a pool within walking distance.
And that stuff all exists in Loudoun County.
It's one of the most beautiful places in the country to live.
There's so many beautiful housing developments and shopping centers there.
But then there have become this encroachment of these data centers, and they have come with...
kind of the eyesore of the data center itself, but that in some cases they're extremely loud.
