I was a teenager myself in a school on the other side of the city when I first heard about Larry Mullen's note.
You two were exploding in America and it caught my imagination, the idea that something so extraordinary could happen from a scrawled note on a school bulletin board.
The school I was in couldn't have been more different.
It was single sex and run by a religious order as most schools in Ireland were.
Even back then, I thought to myself, if I ever have children, I will send them to Mount Temple.
And when years later I ended up living on the north side, a mother to twin girls, that's what I did.
My daughters go to school there.
They are in fifth year at Mount Temple and they love it.
It might be a legendary footnote in the annals of Irish showbiz now, but back then the school was groundbreaking in its own right.
Mount Temple Comprehensive was established in 1972 and created from the amalgamation of three Protestant schools, the Royal Hibernian Marine, Bertrand and Rutland, and Mount Joy, which was the existing school on the grounds.
It was really out on its own.
The only equivalent of Mount Temple was New Park Comprehensive on the south of the city, also established in 1972.
The main Mount Temple school was a brand new single-storey cinderblock structure with corridors painted green, purple and yellow.
The school was co-educational, multi-denominational, no uniform, no corporal punishment.
They didn't have classes streamed in the usual way, A, B, C. They were more egalitarian, D, U, B, L, I, N, and it's still that way today.
