So you can compare across brands if you do it that way.
and just make sure the prices aren't gradually creeping up while the sizes are going down.
Yeah, it's interesting because I think everybody's trying to figure this question out.
So in past downturns, you do see consumers sort of retreat to the home and do things like cook more instead of going out to restaurants and sort of take care of themselves more instead of going out to the salon.
Executives are actually seeing something quite similar happen now.
But I think what everyone's trying to figure out is, given Americans are sitting on quite a lot of savings, the unemployment rate is still relatively low.
You know, a lot of people do have reasonably good job security at the moment.
What companies are trying to figure out is exactly the question you asked.
how will consumer behavior this recession look different to last?
And how can we extract that from sort of COVID driven behaviors?
And I don't think anybody has a clear cut answer.
But one of the things I've heard from a few companies is consumers are already more comfortable spending time at home.
You know, they've learned how to make that fancy cocktail for themselves because bars were shut for two years, or they've learned how to sort of make good food for themselves and use home delivery services.
And so
Some of the past behaviors we've seen with consumers sort of pulling back on the outside world to save money may only be exacerbated if we go into a downturn now because they're already quite comfortable doing that.
Although what I think is really interesting about this recession is just the fact that it's coupled with such surging inflation.
And that is something that we haven't necessarily seen in the past.
And so, you know, the consumer is in the driving seat up to a point.
But I think what energy prices do...
will really dictate what the future looks like and how much people pull back.
