And you have Senator Rand Paul, who, by the way, is not always seen eye to eye with McConnell.

These two have clashed many times over the last decade and a half that Rand Paul has been in the Senate, sticking up for McConnell here, saying that the governor is kind of engaged in politics here.

So it's true that it's only this week and next week where the Senate is even expected to be in session at all.

Are they going to need McConnell's vote on the floor of the chamber for certain things?

There are a couple of things that Republicans want to do, including confirming Todd Blanch as attorney general.

This could be a very close vote because there are numerous Republican senators

on the fence and Blant is unlikely to win over any Democrats, McConnell's absence could factor in there.

But if you get to the end of next week and the Senate just goes on recess for the month of August, then the deadline essentially punts to September.

Early September when they come back, is McConnell going to be back even then?

His office has not said.
