So, you know, for now, it sort of feels like, you know, we did go through a period in the US, you know, where we had softer employment growth, and it felt like households managed through that by drawing down on savings.
And we've seen a similar dynamic, I guess, as households have faced into...
higher energy prices in the US as well.
And so that's exactly what the economists are forecasting for the month of May.
They've got income going up four tenths of a percent in the month and spending going up six tenths of a percent.
So that implies all else equal, you know, a further drag on the savings rate.
So that can't go on forever.
But the inflation story, I think, is going to be pretty nasty, at least optically.
We've got headline likely to come in around an annual rate of 4.1%.
And the core measure, the annual rate ticks up a little bit to 3.4%.
