And so I guess you know what this tells you is that there is, you know, a a a sort of sensitivity that doesn't lurk too far under the surface to uh you know any headline that suggests uh the story might not be as positive as I guess uh you know earnings growth estimates and uh you know valuations in that sector might suggest. voice-verified

I mean I guess, you know, it was widely expected that the Bank of Japan was going to keep its policy rate unchanged yesterday, so no surprises there. voice-verified

But what was surprising was that there were three members on the nine person committee who did vote for a hike, a twenty five basis point hike. voice-verified

Um and so that gave a little bit of support to the yen, um, you know, straight after the announcement, but any support uh, you know, quickly faded. voice-verified

Because the Bank of Japan governor, you know, really didn't um, you know, I guess signal any imminent tightening at the press conference, uh and so voice-verified

you know, we're we're we're sort of back to where we've been many times before, which is the Bank of Japan just maintaining, you know, what is super loose uh policy stance, despite, you know, a lot of evidence um that inflation voice-verified

is actually starting to to tick higher, uh and voice-verified

You know, we've got really n negative real interest rates uh in Japan as a consequence and you know, they just continue to to weigh on the value of the yen. voice-verified

So this was I guess a bit of a surprise to the upside, um, in the month of April. voice-verified

So uh this measure of consumer confidence lifted. voice-verified

And what was I think, you know, reasonably interesting and possibly quite significant um as we approached the F OMC meeting tonight was that uh you know people look at this survey because it's got a a good sort of series that correlates really nicely with the US unemployment rate and it's it's really about um the differential between, you know, do you find it hard to get a job or do you find it easy to get a job. voice-verified
