It certainly feels that way.
I mean...
Claire, we've spoken so many times before when there have been these flare-ups during this very tense ceasefire.
But yeah, it feels different this time, Donald Trump declaring that the ceasefire is over.
I think there is a sense in this region that people are going to hold their breath now to see how
next 24 hours unfolds but i think you know people here are also used to donald trump saying things and then not following through with threats but certainly he has made the job for negotiators and diplomats that much harder today by declaring essentially the memorandum of understanding void that they fought so hard to get over the line for so many weeks
And as you say, I think it's going to steal the oxygen at the NATO summit, a summit that Mark Rutte really wanted to be focused on unity after such a fractious relationship between the US and its European allies over their lack of support, as Donald Trump views it, over the Iran war.
I don't know.
I mean, it certainly feels like Donald Trump is super fired up at this summit.
You know, his comments in the last half an hour saying that, you know, they hit Iran 20 times harder overnight.
He was so critical in his language.
I mean, we've heard him
talking about the Iranians, how they've had regime change because they've managed to take out the leadership.
And we know that that's not the case.
You don't take out a regime by taking out the figureheads.
You need institutions to fall to have regime change.
And we know that that hasn't happened.
But he's kind of talked up, you know, how well diplomacy was going between the two sides.
And then today, he's now calling them sick people, describing them as scum, as a cancer.
And it's unclear how closely that's linked to where his head is when it comes to the NATO relationship.
