And so I guess, you know, nine are tipped to take three games as they currently have in State of Origin, but there will be more games overall.
And so I guess Foxtel are sort of saying, well, yes, we're paying a crap load more, but we're going to get more games eventually over this seven-year deal for that.
So, you know, like there are some changes in ways that sort of, you know, it changed a little bit, but broadly you could just say it's just business as usual, but the broadcasters are just going to pay so much more.
Well, look, you know, Foxtel has levers it can pull, obviously.
No one likes the annual price rise for KO Sports, but I think that's going to be a feature for the next seven years under this deal, basically.
If they're having to pay double, and this is a subscription product, they haven't really got many other levers to pull here.
People are just going to have to pay to be able to access all the games.
And Nine, to a certain degree, they're a free-to-air network company.
advertising is getting really tough given YouTube and Netflix and Amazon and Disney are all running ads now.
They're all competing for the same amount of money.
Gambling advertising is going to become a little bit harder to run just because there are some restrictions now on when they can run it and that's all going to flow through.
So the sport is this sort of interesting thing.
You can't make much money from it, but you also can't live without it.
If you look at Channel 10, Channel 10 has barely any sport and compared to 9 and 7, captures just a tiny portion of the market, of the advertising market.
So I don't think that they would be bidding this much if they didn't think they could afford it.
The interesting thing will be how this affects them going forward.
Is this the sort of deal that in a few years' time we look back on and say, how the heck
Could they sign that?
How could Foxtel or how could Nine agree to pay that much money and think that they could make it work?
So we are like every few years, media reporters like myself just go, how can they possibly afford that?
