So the sport is this sort of interesting thing.

You can't

You can't make much money from it, but you also can't live without it.

If you look at Channel 10, Channel 10 has barely any sport, and compared to 9 and 7, captures just a tiny portion of the market, of the advertising market.

So I don't think that they would be bidding this much if they didn't think they could afford it.

The interesting thing will be how this affects them going forward.

Is this the sort of deal that in a few years' time we look back on and say, how the heck...

Could they sign that?

How could Foxtel or how could Nine agree to pay that much money and think that they could make it work?

So we are like every few years, media reporters like myself just go, how can they possibly afford that?

And yet they do.

But this really feels like it's getting to a tipping point here.

I mean, like, you know, Nine is struggling in a really hard advertising market.

Foxtel has been bought by DAZN, who have lost billions over the last sort of decade trying to make this, you know, global Netflix of sport model work.

And I don't necessarily think this is going to reverse that trend unless they can materially increase the price of what they're selling.

Look, this is standard in other countries, right?

Like Australia is sort of a special case here that we can, it's almost like the luxury that you can go to one place and pay under 50 bucks and get the entirety of the sport that you want to watch, which is probably going to be AFL or NRL.

You go to the UK, you go to many other countries, I think it's like hundreds of dollars to be able to access the NFL in the US.

I think, look, this is a forecast, but I probably reckon the next NRL deal, if they want anything like the money that they're on now, they're going to have to split it across multiple broadcasters or streaming platforms.

It's hard to say seven years.
