So yes, I would say that the periphery is central.
And in fact, they've Xi Jinping coordinated the or held the second work conference on the China's periphery and how to proceed since 2013.
That happened in April of twenty twenty five.
And it really gestured towards much closer cooperation, much more connectivity.
But important
Importantly more strategic coordination, including things like joint law enforcement.
Myanmar is probably an interesting example here in that there's been the ongoing stripe strife in Myanmar for some time, but China weighted in d quite decisively in 2024 to support the military junta, both in terms of money and also weapons.
And this illustrates some of the concerns that Beijing has.
First of all, it's a bordering state and having a
country at civil war on your border is not ideal.
They also buy most of Myanmar's heavy rare earth elements.
The borders super important for China because they're concerned about what Xi Jinping calls or what many of the party thinkers have called color revolutions, which is essentially hostile Western powers co-opting political factions within bordering countries in order to push on China, in order to contain China, disrupt its interests, and ultimately, you know, potentially
try to subvert the party.
Myanmar is also essential to China's strategy of bypassing the Straits of Malacca.
The vast majority of China's energy imports come through
Straight.
And so Myanmar, there's an overland corridor that allows an alternative way to access the Indian Ocean.
As you say it does, it it illustrates also the, you know, both what China's attempting to achieve, but also just the ri this is the these are the risks of being a big country with the means to intervene and the means to influence the course of politics and and wars in other countries is that you that happened to Sudan, China much, much earlier, but they're kind of stuck because they're having to maintain these different constituencies.
they're having to choose sides but also hedge.
And that's very messy.
