And again, in my book, I talk about, I think that organizations are wasting talent.
And I hear this thing come from companies that they say, we have unskilled workers.
I said it last time I was here.
I think the worst thing you can call somebody is unskilled.
To call another human unskilled without looking at them, without seeing their skills, without evaluating and giving them the opportunities necessary for them to display the talent they have,
is morally wrong.
It fundamentally hurts organizations' ability to expand and grow.
And today, I think that's what we need more from that function from inside of companies.
Where can companies help?
Like companies can create an environment where every worker has the same opportunities to acquire the credentials necessary to win any job in their workforce.
But you know what?
Most workers don't know what the next job is.
And if AI is going to change 50% of the tasks that make up work over the next decade, which is, you know, what some McKinsey, you know, Vest has said, or a bunch of other folks are out there saying what percent of work is going to shift.
But if the majority of jobs are going to change, then workers need to be able to reskill quickly.
And that's what I try to impress upon workers that I talk to, whether they're coming out of a reentry program here in Newark, New Jersey, or they're coming to a workforce program locally, or they're currently in a job or multiple jobs trying to lateral, is we need to be great at learning new things.
Because what we're good at today may not be a task and a job tomorrow.
And this is where the government shutdown really hurts workers right now.
Because WIOA funding and local workforce community dollars are cut off in workforce centers across the country.
We don't talk about that.
It's not just SNAP.
