at the pub having a beer and having a punt so that kind of connection piece as it grew and not knowing how to grieve and what was going on with me I didn't understand mental health at that stage of my life so a lot of things sort of bundled up together and turned fairly sour over the coming years after that in terms of gambling was lucky enough to be able to get myself out of that situation and

Going through my cancer is probably the best example of how a footy club and a community can really wrap your arms around you.
I had the amazing moment where everyone shaved their heads for me and we got to donate a bunch of money to Peter Mac and
That started from a small gesture from Paddy Cripps and Lilo Sullivan at the footy club to how they could support me and how they could support Peter Mack, who were looking after me, which then turned into a small group of my friends at the club, a small group of friends outside the club, which turned into... I don't even know how many people shaved their heads, but it was down to 10-year-olds, 8-year-olds, 6-year-olds giving their pocket money up for the week and spending...
$5 to show me that they cared.
I'm in the philanthropy game at Peter Mac now, being a board member of the foundation.
Most of those large scale donation runs come from big funders.
They come from 50 grand checks to be able to get up to the 250 grand total.
This was a community led thing that was centered around me and I got to be the focus point of it, which was absolutely amazing.
And I'm very grateful to be
that person that got to experience that moment, but just so thankful for the wider Carlton community, AFL community, and footy club to be able to support me through that time.
