I probably had 100 injections in 180 games to be able to get through, to be able to play.

My body wasn't built for AFL footy.

So between trying to get up from little niggles, and I was one of those guys that kind of refused to say no to that my body was hurting and made sure I could get out there.

And ultimately, if I didn't get out there for all of those games, I wouldn't have got as many out as I did.

That's the physical toll, the mental toll on it.

And I've kind of grown up through footy through the rise, the real rise of social media and the access to players, whether it's intentional or not.

You flick on Instagram and anyone can have an opinion, let alone the rise in media.

And I'm in the media now.

There's every man and their dog have got an opinion about the way that the club's going and the way you get individually going.

So trying to deal with all that plus your own internal scrutiny.

There's just so much around the game these days that is more than just what we see out there for 120 minutes.

There's a lot there, isn't there?

Yeah.

And my gambling stuff early days was partly linked to my dad, a 20-year-old losing their father, just coming back from Brisbane at the time.

It was an incredibly tough thing to go through.

I was in a new environment.

I didn't really know anyone at Carlton.

I'd only been there for about a month before it happened.
