Of why he's doing so well leans more on his really intense focus on constituent services, even in red rural parts of the state where maybe he's not expecting to get a lot of votes.
I talked about this with Lance Sabi.
He's the mayor pro tem of Brunswick, which is on the Georgia coast, and he's someone who has voted for Republicans and for Democrats, but he said when it came to the Senate race his choice was really easy.
And just in the last couple of weeks, we've heard uh Ossoff getting endorsements from a couple of guide-in-the-wolf Republican local mayors in rural parts of the state.
And even some Republican strategists acknowledge that Ossoff does really well in this space and they've got really nothing to complain about.
Yeah, so he ran as a candidate much further to the left.
And now in this general election context, Republicans are having a much easier time hitting him over his positions on things like policing and immigration enforcement.
And that may end up being a problem with voters who lean Republican and independents.
But you know, even beyond that, just unifying Democrats after the primary has proven to be really complicated.
Yeah, so I was talking to these four women, and they had hoped to actually ask a question at this event.
It was originally billed as a town hall, and a lot of their hesitation stemmed from some comments that Al Say had made back in March after this vehicle attack on the Temporal Israel Preschool, which is nearby uh this community where this town hall was.
Um, members of the assailants' family had been killed by.
By Israeli strikes in Lebanon.
And at the time, Al Sayyid said in part that hurt people hurt people.
And this is what voter Judy Kessler said to me.
Yeah, so one of the questions I've had for Al Sayyid is what a pivot to the general election will look like in this moment.
You know, I even mentioned my conversation with Susan Kessler and her friends and asked, you know, what he would say to them.
And Al Sayyid said, you know, he's not really changing much, uh, though maybe pivoting more to drawing a contrast with his Republican opponent Mike Rogers.
And then we should note that uh a few days later at two different events for Jewish Democrats over this past weekend, Elsea did walk back those comments about the synagogue attack and now it will be up to voters like Kessler to decide over these next two months whether that's enough.
But I also want to say that El Sayyid's campaign has energized a lot of voters.
