There's a four kilometre steep hike through the dense jungle to get to the cave itself.

So this is an incredibly tough mission, but it has had one incredible breakthrough.

Yeah, about 4.30pm local time.

And the two rescuers that we've been talking about emerged from this muddy path that they'd been trekking through inside the cave into the cave chamber.

And they found five of the seven villagers dead.

huddled onto a single rock with their headlamps still on.

It's incredible and there's lots of emotion as you would expect in that and immediately the rescuers passed them water and energy gels.

These villagers hadn't eaten for several days and one of the rescuers said, I'm still shaking and our team made it happen.

So a really beautiful moment.

It's not over, of course.

There are still two villagers who are missing.

But what we know about the five who were rescued is that they were malnourished and very, you know, not in a good way emotionally.

But for the large part, they're not injured or ill.

So it's really an incredible result.

And now there's still everyone on site trying to figure out how to get those last two out.

I don't actually know.

I can't say anything about their food.

No, neither can I. But you'd assume at least after a 10-day stint in the cave that they probably didn't go into the caves with 10 days' worth of food on them.

And they were malnourished.
