I don't think anybody really in either of those cases fully believes what those people are saying.
In the right circumstances, they've done it before.
I think they will do it again if it suits them.
And
In quite a cynical way, if you're the DUP or Sinn Féin, would you rather fight an election next May based on your record in government in the executive, which has been pretty shocking, I think it's fair to say, or would you rather fight a very tribal election, orange and green, familiar lines?
The DUP standing up for the orange men as they'll present it.
Sinn Féin standing up for the local residents and the wider issue of parading about these orange parades not going through areas where they're not wanted.
That is familiar territory.
These parties are dying drastically in the polls.
We know that.
This, I think, gives them an out.
And so could you have an election maybe in November or something of that nature where these parties think that's their best chance of clinging on to power?
But what is the point of that?
If we're just coming back to this,
over and over and over again.
There is a profound problem.
What is the point of having a parades commission?
What is the point of having the High Court when Alison says there that this is probably going to go back to the High Court this week, which I think is probably right?
What is the point of doing that if we're not going to, on both sides, buy into what the outcome is?
