So I look after corporate affairs regulation and strategy for SSE.
So I'm sitting there doing a lot of the stuff and how we interact with the external world and how we think about policy regulation.
So I do think we are thinking about bills in the wrong way.
We started thinking about them in terms of three bills, because ultimately we in energy think a lot about the price cap.
We think about electricity, gas, we think about the eighteen hundred odd pounds a year, electricity and gas around half.
offer that, but we sometimes forget about the petrol part of it, which can be over a thousand pounds a year for bills.
And we've started thinking that with the electrification, you start to get a lot of interesting savings and interactions.
So we almost run three parallel systems, electricity system, a gas system, and then this sort of petrol system.
As you start to converge with heat pumps, you start to converge with electric vehicles, you can actually start to get towards
One system.
Now that one system should be a lot more efficient.
It should be a larger system for most of the things we put on it.
Plus there's a kind of efficiency argument around it, Sam, which we've been thinking about, which is that electric vehicles are three or four times as efficient as petrol cars, heat pumps are three or four times efficient as boilers.
So you start to merge the three systems into one and you start to get to an interesting place.
us think about this is the customer journey in that.
Say you've got a typical household who's got standards electricity and gas bills and they've got a petrol car.
They'll be about £3,000 a year.
If they switch to an electric vehicle, obviously there's upfront costs associated with that, but you start to get about a thousand pounds off your total bill or get down to about 30% off.
And then you say you put a heat pump on top of that, you can get another five percent off.
