Like, what's the moment where... I'm aging gracefully into it, and I have a lot of gerontocratic power awaiting me, which is why I wanted to seize the opportunity while I still identified a bit with, you know, those younger than me.

And above all, my own children, to strike a blow against power that I will inherit if I stay around.

So first off, life extension is a miracle.

And I don't think you're in favor.

I'm in favor of it, especially when it comes to my life.

But I do think we should benefit from life extension.

Individuals should extend their vocations if that's what they want to do.

all other things being equal.

And we should benefit as a society from the new lease on life that many of us can expect to have far into the future.

But I think there are some drawbacks, a dark side, if you will.

One is just the injustice that comes from not fairly organizing a succession process.

Most firms have an internal hierarchy, and their very few people tend to be the old at the apex.

And those beneath them, like in the HBO show succession, are waiting for their time.

And I don't think that's good for anyone.

Then there's an existential side, which is that maybe we, because of the cult of longevity,

and the age-old wish for eternal life are not reckoning with our future, and we're holding on in spite of the other things we could be doing in a last chance to reinvent ourselves from, like, taking advantage of the extension of life, which grants us, potentially,

you know, an ideal retirement, not just hanging on for dear life until death comes.

I believe so.

And we wouldn't want to miss that a gerontocratic society tends to produce policies that often hurt elderly people a lot too, especially when older people control the political system.

I think this is probably the most important question because it wouldn't matter how old the politicians are if they're still government.
