Yes, it's really well documented.

They have what we call evisceration.

So they might do this to actually distract a predator.

So they let go of their internal organs to kind of keep the predator occupied as they move away.

But by doing so, they end up being essentially an empty shell, an empty body.

And so they do regrow them in a few days or weeks.

and they will grow back their intestine, their gonad, and so forth.

And some species are even known to do this seasonally.

So there's kind of a cycle to kind of keep the energy lower in more difficult seasons.

And some people say it's also to perhaps get rid of parasites in that way.

So the ultimate detox.

So that's part of the mystique, a little bit of sea cucumbers as well.

Some species actually have specialized organs called cuvarian tubules.

There's like sticky white spaghetti-like organs that they throw from the backside to the predators and the predators become entangled and they have to work out sometimes a number of hours just to get rid of this sticky spaghetti.
