This is a book called Kill Your Darlings by Peter Swanson.
I haven't read any Peter Swanson until now, but he seems to tend to write kind of mystery, suspense-ish type stuff.
This one, Kill Your Darlings, is a thing you say as a writer, and so you have to be not scared to
kill off something you thought was really good but isn't going to serve the book right like you wrote a 10 page i don't know treatise on a glass of water and and that's just not cool for you but i mean i think herman melville should have killed some of his darlings and he didn't you know from a anyway the book is catching strays i i'm throwing shade on that's too bad
But the book is about a marriage, basically.
And the cool sort of gimmick of the book that the people that they're trying to sell it is it's told backward.
So it's told from roughly the present time to like 1980s when these two people met when they were on a school trip to Washington, D.C., when they were like in grade eight or something.
So it's kind of it's it's about how they got intertwined, why they got intertwined.
There's a lot of secrets and there's a lot of animosity that builds up because of the secrets.
But you don't really know.
Like, for instance, the book kind of opens with with the wife pushing the husband down their stairs after a dinner party, just randomly pushing him down the stairs.
He's fine.
And she's like, I'm just going to see what happens if I do this.
And you learn this is a practice for something else that she would like to do.
And it takes a long time.
Whoa.
It's a crazy marriage.
It's a lot about fate and destiny and cosmic twins.
It's like they're meant to be together, but in this weird sort of double indemnity noir kind of way.
It's not a good marriage.
