And partly that was I hadn't realized that you'd had this bereavement.
I'd missed some episodes off the podcast.
I was really shocked and sorry for your own personal loss
but the issues that you touched on when discussing your grief and the reaction that other people that you knew had to it really resonated with me, you know, through briefings I've had myself, but it was just the raw honesty of it.
So obviously I was concerned about you as all your friends are, but it raised so many issues that I think we should discuss more and how grief has evolved from,
say, I think particularly really since World War I and how people are expected to conduct themselves, what kind of length of time of grieving is considered acceptable before you're expected to move on?
You touched on issues around how different people had reacted to your grief.
And that really interests me, you know, how people behave when confronted with another person's pain.
So I thought, you know, and I think probably that's why it had such a strong reaction from so many other people, because this happens to all of us at some point in our lives and either a terrible bereavement ourselves or one from our close friends or from family.
And how do we react?
So so airing it, I think, and the reaction that you got shows how much people need to actually talk about something we normally don't.
Well, yes and no.
So on the one hand, not surprised because most of my friends, especially my close friends, are men.
And there are lots of reasons and social dynamics around that.
And
From what I've learned from being friends with them is I think when a lot of them are on their own, it's tempting to distract oneself with the football results, sport and things like that.
But personally, I find, and maybe this is the male-female dynamic, that once I prod just a little bit, once I simply ask a question, they have no problem talking.
They will absolutely tell me about what's going on in their private lives or how they feel.
Or if they're struggling.
And I always find it extraordinary that when I do hear this description, you know, that men aren't very good at discussing their emotions.
