So what inspired you to bring a doppelganger, double?
I mean, you've talked a little bit about the sense of self, fragmented self.
Yeah.
No, but it's so brilliant because it's the experience, the thought of loss, the imagination in a way.
It's sort of like it's a gift imagination, but it's also torture because you've lived a whole life in anticipation.
Totally.
And then that's as much of a shock really as reality.
I mean, I think that's really brilliant in the book.
And it sort of says that sort of sense of pre-mourning so beautifully and how nobody really takes it on board because then if life carries on, you're like, oh, well, life carries on.
But also that what I read, I don't know, I'm a sort of, you know, amateur psychoanalyst.
But I really loved in the book, because I know in your push to sort of democratize fiction generally, but in this, I felt like there was a push to democratize the things that go on in the psyche.
So you have the, you know, usually if we're sort of all young and you'd have a person in the shadow self who was the thing that was repressed and kept away.
In this, the repressed, the thing that's supposed to be disavowed is actually really helpful.
And they're equals.
They're equal.
And in the end, they really work with each other.
