And that was an expensive mistake.
I have been amazed at the deeply intimate conversations that I've gotten to be a part of too.
because of the health implications of what we're building, right?
Like, there's so many people with inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, or IBS, and when they find out I'm building a gut health tracker, they start talking to me like I am their doctor.
And...
They'll share their most intimate, and they'll tell me things like, I don't talk to anyone about this, but because you're so in this area, I'll tell you.
And it's like, there's an NPR podcast episode on invisibilia called Poop Friends.
And the whole podcast just talks about how like your most innermost circle of friends are the people you can talk about your poop with.
And what I found, I didn't plan for this, but like I get to be strangers' poop friend.
And like there's something deeply special about that.
Ironic as it sounds, like people, you know, cause like think about someone who has IBD, like one woman stopped me at a conference and she was like, I wish I'd had this product when I was going through my gut health journey, because there were days my doctor told me to keep a stool long, which is humiliating.
And I would like go 40, 50 times a day.
And I knew exactly how many tiles were on my bathroom floor because that's how much time I was spending in the bathroom.
And to have something that would track all that for me so I didn't have to would have been, like, spared me so much humiliation.
And, like, for her to open up to me and she was like, can I give you a hug?
Like, I am so excited this exists.
