Airlines blame staffing situations that in many cases caught them by surprise.
In some cases, it was their own pilots and flight attendants not wanting to come back from leave as quickly as the airline thought they were going to come back.
So they ran into shortages.
They ran into problems retraining crews so that they were good to go back out working.
And that tripped up some airlines and led to cancellations.
But the labor issues were much broader, as we've seen in other industries.
It can be agents at the airport.
It may be wheelchair pushers.
It may be people to drive the fueling truck or the catering truck.
There were those kinds of shortages that happened at the airport, not in the air, and forced airlines to really trim back schedules.
But I think the broader issue here was some airlines were very aggressive about their schedule.
And Spirit, for example, had as many flights as they had in the summer of 2019, actually a few more flights.
Other airlines, Delta, Hawaiian, United, all of which did pretty well with operations.
They're still more than 20% smaller than they were in the summer of 2019.
So Allegiant had...
14% more flights than they had in 2019.
And even Southwest, which was only 12%, 13% smaller than 2019, they were very aggressive with their schedule.
And that's what tripped them up.
They didn't have spare airplanes and didn't have spare crews.
They really overshot in terms of what they thought they could do this summer.
