Kdub and Maureen both mentioned their tax season did not go as well as they'd hoped.
And they speak for lots of us when they say the tax season wasn't what they hoped it would be and that it was painful.
That was the theory of the game, though, for Team Trump, that tax season was going to bring some form of visceral, touchable, tangible relief for people.
The economy was going to turn by this point in 2026, and things were going to move well for them in the elections.
That was the theory of the game.
That clearly has not manifested itself.
All we have now is economic horror or at least economic fear across the country.
That was their political calculus.
I don't know what their backup plan is, but none of this is trivial, Don.
They have to protect their Senate majority.
If they lose it,
Trump will not be able to nominate a Supreme Court justice because Democrats won't let somebody through.
They'll follow the Mitch McConnell plan.
If they lose the House, the House will control his purse strings.
He can't fund things like a war in Iran if Democrats control the House.
This is a big thing that's happening in less than six months.
And their whole game strategy, their game plan was tax season was going to be awesome.
People will be feeling great.
That's why they're boxed in.
I mean, 2024, the Trump team was able to able to successfully convince a number of Americans that one of the biggest issues in America was, I'm sorry, men playing in women's sports, that that was the issue that was defining the country and driving everybody's decisions.
