In fact, quite often it's at the sharp end of the midfield, and sometimes that's brought scrutiny and controversy.
Should an F1 team be allowed to exist this way?
Does that diminish the achievement and so on?
Like...
It's going to be down to individual interpretation.
I think it's good that there are different ways to run F1 teams.
I think part of that is what you said, Ed, that its ultimate potential is capped by its setup.
Again, if all the Ferrari teams do the best job, Haas should still be last of the Ferrari teams because it does the least of its own.
It has the least control over its final performance level.
What it's doing within that I think is impressive for a second reason, which is...
it's not been particularly well set up for what kind of team it is.
It's so inefficient working across these different sites.
And the work in the last few years, probably post-COVID, I would say there's been a huge emphasis on trying to do a lot more with what they have because they weren't even really reaching the limit of what the Haas team was in that existence.
And now it's about trying to raise the ceiling so that the bottlenecks aren't quite as choking as they've been for the last few years.
Yeah, it was really interesting to go up there and see it with my own eyes because... Oh, had you not been there before?
No, I'd not been to Banbury, to the Haas facility.
And actually on the day, on the morning, I had the bright idea of going very, very briefly.
I basically ran around Banbury and literally ran around Banbury, checking out the front of various race teams that are based there because it's one of the great hubs within Motorsport Valley, not just for...
you know engineering it's not just f1 team race team sorry it's engineering chains and supply chains and whatnot but just from a race team perspective it's really interesting because there's mahindra's formula e team there there's pro drive which obviously not a race team in the conventional sense but a ludicrously sarcastically large organization and dwarfs the hass facility it's just around the corner but arden's based there as well you know the well-established super successful junior single-seater team um
And Haas is, you know, I'm not going to pretend that it looks exactly the same.
