I could have listened to different arguments for a lot of those D, but Chase was number one for me pre-draft, and I felt that he was a little bit ahead of the guys who've already been drafted, i.e.
Sam Dickinson, Zane Perak, etc.,
I kind of characterized what I expect from him a lot like what we saw out of Jack Hughes in Jack's sort of first NHL season.
I think Jack only had like 28 or 29 points.
if I'm not mistaken, in his rookie year.
I think Gavin will and struggled with the physicality and how skinny and lean he was, all of the same things that Gavin deals with and that he dealt with, frankly, even at the college level.
But I think Gavin enters into a bit of a different situation than Jack Hughes entered into when Jack was a rookie in New Jersey.
He's going to be surrounded by much better players and Austin Matthews and John Taveras and Matthew Knives and
And now Taylor, Darren Radish and Lillian Nylander, obviously, like he's going to play on a very productive power play.
He's going to put up points at five on five just by virtue of the guys he plays with.
But I do think there's going to be a lot of learning for Gavin, more so than your typical first overall pick in recent years.
We've been spoiled a little by Conor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini and Matthew Schaefer and what they accomplished in the league right away.
I don't expect that Gavin will have that kind of a season.
He's going to struggle defensively.
I think at times off the puck, he needs to get stronger.
He needs to be more engaged in battles defensively.
These are sort of ongoing talking points with him that were a part of his story at Penn State with the Nittany Lions.
But he's going to make a lot of plays.
He's going to end up on the highlight reel a few times over the course of the season.
He's going to put the pucks.
