I always remember people maybe either stepping away from the panel or people getting dropped from the panel and you chat to them and it was always less, I suppose...
damning to them is the way i put it i always thought to myself you know when you're in a senior setup all you think about is that setup and there's no life outside of it and when you're in it and you're looking out you're saying to yourself there's no like there's nothing else there's there's only training tuesday there's training friday just training sunday or a match on sunday there's gym on monday wednesday and that's it life there is no life that exists outside of that
And I suppose when you're forced into experiencing that in terms of life outside of that, you realise, God, there is more outside.
There is more to life than hurling.
Because you do, you become consumed with it.
Like it's all being, it's everything that you lead towards.
Like Jason said, when you go back to the club, it's with one eye on inter-county.
Can I get my body right for inter-county next season?
So I suppose when that's taken away, you have to shift focus, you have to reassess where you're at.
And it's only then, like I suppose I'm in a blessed position that I have kids and a wife, I've, you know, a job outside of it.
And I suppose I'm lucky that I kind of got to do bits and pieces like this that keep you busy, that definitely aided in, I suppose, that transition from playing to not playing.
I'll be honest, I thought it would be worse in terms of looking on at the games and not being part of it.
I suppose for me, looking back on it, I probably mourned my inter-county career last year.
while being part of it, I probably had mourned it because I wasn't getting, I suppose, what I wanted out of it, which was to be playing, to be starting to be having an influence.
So I think when I look back on it in retrospect, I probably mourned it 12 months ago.
So it's made this year a little bit easier, if you understand.
Like I remember there was evenings coming off from training.
