You're developing your own style, your own pace, your own verbiage, your own personality.
And like most things, if you do it, the more you do it, the better you get.
I shatter that theory in some ways, especially golf, because it seems like the more I play golf, the worse I get.
But in this case, I felt like I got better as I went along.
You certainly get more comfortable.
And then you just have the... There's so many learning experiences of...
Interacting with the players.
We had some interesting experiences while we were there.
When Bob Snyder, the legendary sports writer, wasn't there, I would be the official scorer.
And, you know, there's a lot of pressure on that because guys one level below the major leagues think every error that they get that should have been a hit is keeping them out of the major leagues.
Every pitcher thinks an earned run that should have been an unearned run is keeping me out of the major leagues.
So they pay very close attention to the official scoring.
But...
The other part of it, we made $14 a game, which even then was not a lot of money.
But we didn't care, right?
I had to do other jobs to get through the summer and help pay for college, which was expensive.
So there were just so many great aspects to it.
You kind of learned just about everything that you needed to learn to be a broadcaster, be a play-by-play person.
Well, I was graduating from Syracuse, so I needed to get a job, you know, beyond the Syracuse Chiefs.
Finished that summer with WFBL after I graduated and then needed to do other things the rest of the year.
