I know.
Do you think Stripe will ever IPO?
I think the bigger question is, will private companies need to IPO?
Like if there, you know, so much capital has flooded into the late stage market that it is really a very attractive long-term option for companies to remain private forever, right?
If you're cashflow positive and profitable, why would you need to IPO?
And if your investors, the venture capital funds are more than happy to wait five, 10 years, and then maybe they might sell to the next person, right?
So I think there is a bigger question, which is what do we need to change about the public markets to make them more attractive for the world's most ambitious companies to use so that, you know, retail investors and your 401k and your retirement plans can benefit from the growth of those companies.
I think the product, the IPO product right now is so unattractive that actually the venture product is like 10 times more attractive.
Is that why there's been such a lack of IPOs since kind of post-COVID?
Well, I mean, there have been a couple of reasons.
I think the best companies don't need IPO.
The best companies have a product already, which is venture capital and late-stage growth capital that they can tap into, and they're perfectly happy.
I think there are companies that had to IPO because they weren't able to access the private markets.
After the kind of, you know, 21, the COVID boom, the valuations and the cap tables and a lot of things were like that.
So some of the companies went out, had to.
And now there are companies, you know, like the Open AIs and Anthropix and SpaceX's in the world that are just getting so large that even the venture and growth markets can't fund them.
So I think they're kind of going to have to tap the public markets.
And so, as I said, like spending time with founders was just bring me so much joy.
And what I realized is, is that I did not want to be an investor.
Like one of the route could have been going to venture and do it professionally.
