And the reason is, is like I would meet so many exciting founders and I just loved every founder I met.

Even just the fact that you're willing to put your hand up and say, I'm going to go and build something.

You'd be writing checks every day.

I would be a yes on everyone.

Because I'm such an optimist about technology, I can always see a story and a path for every one of those founders to succeed.

You can see a way in that it would work.

Ironically, your disproving method, you just threw that out the window.

What Stripe taught me was that when you build financial infrastructure for startup companies,

you can make a meaningful difference to their outcome.

And when you build financial infrastructure for startups, they're the best customers in the world.

So when you look at Stripe's customer base in its first two years, they started in an accelerator called Y Combinator in San Francisco.

And their first customers were literally their buddies in the accelerators, the other startups.

They all had like zero dollars and with zero customers.

And you think this is not a great place to start your business.
