It's actually sometimes easier to build something that is so outrageously ambitious than to build something that's 10% better.
Why?
First of all, if you're going to do something that's 10% better, you're going to use all the existing infrastructure ideas around it.
You're going to look at the existing solution and see how you can tweak it.
And when you need to do something 10 times better, you have to just rethink every single part of the problem and technology from the ground up.
It's a first principles thing.
You can't just use the existing thing.
And what it means is you're just challenging every single assumption.
Secondly, people want to work at a place where the ambition level is high.
If I said to you, Gary, come and work in my company, we're going to make finance 10% better, you're going to be like, that's not that exciting.
If I said, Gary, we're going to make it 10 times better, you're like, okay, wow, how is it going to be 10 times better?
You can attract talent.
You can also attract capital.
Capital does not want to be in a 10% better idea.
Um, the venture capital community is looking at ideas that can be billion dollar, $10 billion, a hundred billion dollar outcomes, and you do not get there with a 10% better product.
So, you know, I talked to founders a lot who go in and they're pitching VCs and what they're trying to do is, um, maybe like create a realistic idea of like a conservative, here's what we think we can do.
And, you know, when you're pitching investors, you're pitching employees or even customers,
You want to show them that the level of ambition of what you're going to achieve is outrageous.
And customers want to hear this as well.
I mean, this is the way you get people excited about what you're doing.
