And that's because there is so much more nuance than just putting a random sensory bin in front of a kid.

There is a lot more reason behind what we're doing.

We want to know, well, what does this child need to be regulated right now?

Do they need something that's calming?

Do they need something that's alerting?

Do they need big movement input?

What do they need specifically?

And that leads really well into my last one of a big mistake we

not knowing the why, not knowing the why behind what we're doing.

A lot of times therapists think, okay, well, I'm going to have some kind of sensory session.

So I'm going to have a swing or I'm going to have a weighted balls, or I'm going to have a crash pad and

They're thinking about the what, but they're not thinking about the why.

And the why is actually more important than the what.
podcast-host
Because when you know why a child needs a specific type of sensory input, there are many what's we can find to give them that type of input.

But that's the direction that we have to go from.

We have to think about the why.

We have to think about what's happening inside this child's nervous system.
