What is the purpose of tonight’s pre‑party and how does it set up the Sensory Intensive?
Hello, hello, everyone. Welcome, welcome. So excited that you are all here with me today. If you are here, let me know in the chat where you are coming from. I know it's kind of tricky. Today we are on YouTube for the next two days over the course of this sensory intensive. We will be on Zoom, so it will be easier to chat with me. I know on YouTube, I think you have to be signed in in order to get into the chat, but if you are able to sign in, I would love to see you in there. So let me know in the chat where you are from. We are here. I've got my team members here in the chat too, so we could answer any questions that you guys have, but we just have such an exciting week coming up today. We are officially kicking off the week of the Sensory Intensive for SLPs.
So tonight we are doing the pre-party, which is a bonus training to get you ready, get your mind where it needs to be in order to get the most out of the next two days with us. And then tomorrow and the day after, we will be live hour and a half each session, going through so many incredible things that are going to completely change your life. as an SLP. This training that we are doing this week was the first free or like fully organized structured training that I ever did for therapists. And It came after I wrote an article for ASHA about the approach I use to working with autistic children. I talked about how kids need to be regulated and how we need to work on regulation, engagement, and communication in our sessions with autistic kids.
That ASHA article was one of the most downloaded ASHA articles of all time. It led to tons of people reaching out to me, asking how can they learn more about this, saying that they agree with this philosophy, but they don't know what to do or how to do it. And that is what led to me starting to create trainings because I have spent so, so many Hours, time, energy, money, I can't even count all of the things trying to learn more about sensory and specifically about how SLPs can use sensory strategies, which is very, very different than the majority of trainings that exist out there. Because as we know, almost always sensory is considered within the scope of the OT and SLPs and all these other professionals, which I know we're not focusing on this week, but
have been left out of this conversation. And that's very difficult because we can't do our jobs if our kids are dysregulated, right? So what we're going to be talking about today are some of the biggest mistakes that SLPs are making when they are trying to use a sensory-based approach or things that are stopping them from using a sensory-based approach. And this is so that we can really start to address any of the type of resistance we have in our minds about SLPs and our scope and our abilities, these strategies and why we're using them so that when we are going through tons and tons of strategies and interventions and ideas and I'm going to be giving you so many client examples over the next couple days, you are going to be ready to absorb everything that we are going to go through together.
Okay, so A couple of reminders. One, we created a special community just for this event. It's an online community. Melanie, if you could drop the link to, I don't know, how does that work? Do we drop the link to the community straight or they should check their emails maybe? Because we sent you a link. If you registered for this event, you received a link to join this community. And we are having a special giveaway for a gift cards for someone who goes into the community and introduces themselves. We're going to be picking a winner coming up this week too. Make sure to jump in there, introduce yourself. It's a really cool community. I put bonus videos in there. So I have, I think it's five different videos on each of the sensory systems and they're really short.
They're like 60 to 90 seconds, exactly what you need to know about five of the major sensory systems. And we've got those bonus videos waiting for you when you log into the community.
