It's not different to have three fastballs, right?
It's being talked about a lot more and it's being noticed a lot more because the pitchers are being tracked with different shapes and different vertical breaks and horizontal movement.
It's funny to me to hear it be so prevalent in the game, I guess.
So I'm going to give you my take on a lot of this, right?
And I think as the swing revolution happened over the last 15 years, right, the concept of swing up, hit the ball in the air became much more prevalent than it was in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, right?
Like Nolan Ryan was throwing 1,000.
Like according to everybody I've ever talked to, Nolan Ryan, hardest thrower of all time, period, end of story.
And that's probably true, and I'll buy it, right?
Back then, the fastball was counteracted with the swing down movement, right?
With the stay on top, hit the top of the ball.
Their only mission was really to hit the fastball.
And that's when Greg Maddux started kind of sinking it and cutting it and sliding it and throwing an 86 under your barrel and getting guys to pound the ball into the ground.
So the game kind of flipped.
And I would say the pendulum swung to one side and saying like,
OK, you guys want to swing down and can handle the heater like we're going to start going soft and under your barrel.
And now all of a sudden what's kind of happened is, you know, fastball velocities across the board are a little higher because guys are training different.
Right.
I don't think anybody's throwing harder than the hardest thrower of all time.
There are just more guys that are throwing hard because they're training differently.
And because of that.
