But I guess, I mean, to play devil's advocate a little bit, I think part of it is we do need to raise some of our students' achievement levels.
But without having these students get left behind, what do you think some of those solutions could look like?
What usually gets cut first?
So then does the government need to go out and do some research and figure out what the extent of that need is?
A lot of it, he says, boils down to the age-old funding argument, and it doesn't matter who's in government.

The series is now in its tenth year.
The idea started in New York and is now global, with academics giving lectures to the public in pubs.
