You know, don't be a hypocrite.
But fundamentally, when it comes to means testing, we do this for every other form of welfare.
whether it's for working for families, for people with kids, whether it's for job seeker benefits, whether it's for disability, there is significant, complicated means testing that we do.
So when people say, oh, it's going to be so complicated to means test New Zealand Super, I'm like, bugger off.
It's going to be very easy.
We do this quite well already.
Well, there is no magic number.
So with public policy, you have to kind of pick a number that's good enough.
And the 12% mark is roughly good enough.
So if you compare that to, say, the Netherlands, which is more like 18%,
over there, people kind of retire with the same kind of income they had at work.
With our kind of 12% target, you will retire, but you will have less income in retirement than you did while you're working.
But that's not a problem because you have less expenses when you're retired, right?
You're not getting to work and all the costs of going to work, all those things disappear.
So 12%, 10%, I mean, that's just like fighting between nerds.
It doesn't really matter.
It's close enough.
Yeah, look, our recommendation to members who have the ability is always, if you can afford to put some extra money away, please do, because KiwiSaver as it stands currently is not enough.
But the way that I think about it is KiwiSaver is no longer just a retirement scheme.
It's a whole of life-saving scheme.
