My first show I did, I included that.

And I talked a lot about growing up being gay and kind of how Ireland grew up at the same time.

I interviewed 30 people, various people, Mary McAleese among them, about that time, about the marriage equality referendum, and then 30 interviews with each other.

Yeah, I mean, you're waking up this morning looking at horrible news from pride festivals in Berlin.

Berlin's supposed to be this bastion of liberal, you know.

attitudes that's changing in loads of ways Germany's changing in loads of ways but like people are being murdered for that still in so many countries around the world it's still illegal and there is we have regressed and you know it's not so much for the gay men anymore the gay men have been at the front and centre and the stars the whole thing for so long for me it's about trans people and the constant abuse of trans people and the discussions of them even well meaning discussions in the media as if they want anything specific all they want to do is just live and go to work and do this that and the other

And the thing is, what I learned from making that podcast and researching it about that time is that it's the same arguments.

We've heard all these things before.

Everything they say about trans people and what they're trying to do and how they want to indoctrinate children.

These are the same arguments we've heard for decades and actually for centuries.

I learned guitar just to kind of fit in for a while.

I learned a bit.
