And look, speaking from my own level of experience, you know, there is only one test to get better and that's out there in the middle of the ground on any particular weekend.

And that level of knowledge, you know, eventually you almost get to the point where you've just about seen anything that can happen on a football field.

And they're the situations that you do really rely on your experience and past experiences to make sure that you get and implement the right outcome.

So I'm much more favour around keeping your experienced guys in the game for longer because no one really cares about an umpire that he can do 17k or 18k.

I mean, yeah, there'll be some appreciation for that.

But in the day, all the fans want, all the clubs want, all the game wants is that we've got the right decision being made consistently.

Yeah, look, I share your concern.

I'm very concerned at the casualness.

And I think that's perhaps where, again, you know, if I think where the game's at a very important juncture is actually respect for the umpire, respect for the role.

Maynard's explanation will never hold up again.

He may think that in his own mind that that justifies what he did.

But in a game of AFL football, where the umpire's integrity and the umpire's safety is primary, there can be no excuses.

And I think that's perhaps, again, in my opinion at least, was disappointing with where the AFL sat in terms of its penalty on him.

You know, it certainly highlighted a development in the guidelines for the MRO that certainly should differentiate between any player contact that might happen in general play, as opposed to this instance where the quarter had ended, the game had stopped for all intents and purposes.

So the umpires themselves really weren't in a position to pay free kicks or to

to act in any way that might be as a deterrent to that contact.

So I think the players need to be better in those situations.

I think the players need to have awareness.
